Your responsibilities
  • Researching the environmental impact of blockchain technologies (with a particular focus on Bitcoin) from various angles (e.g., technological, economic).
  • Establishing relationships with stakeholders from the industry and developing a field of applied research related to the current and future challenges of blockchain and sustainability.
  • Project administration.
Your profile
  • Master’s degree in computer science, economics, business administration, or related fields.
  • Evidence of research potential, preferably with a strong focus on new technologies.
  • Profound knowledge of different research methods (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Profound knowledge of blockchain technologies.
  • Ability to attract external funding to support research programs and to successfully build collaborative research programs with other universities, research institutes, and industry.
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills (C1 or higher); proficiency in the German language is welcome.

This is a part‐time position offered for four years, corresponding to the duration of the FWF-funded project “Energy Use of Bitcoin”. Applicants must be prepared to work 30 hours per week (with overtime hours), not including the coursework and the publications for the doctorate studies. The initial gross salary is EUR 2.684 per month, with a yearly increase of 6.85%. The position remains open until filled; the review of applications will commence immediately after the announcement. Starting date: 1 January 2025 or as soon as practicable thereafter.
