Job position and department´s overview
Modul University Vienna is seeking an outstanding scholar for a Senior Researcher position (PostDoc) for its Vienna Institute for Global Studies (VIGS Institute} to conduct research in the area of international relations, international politics and international security. This position also provides opportunities to take leadership roles in various strategic fields of the new institute (e.g. development of the Modul University Vienna Start-up Hub).
Your responsibilities
  • Establishing relationships with stakeholders from the listed research areas (international relations, politics and security) and developing a field of applied research related to the current and future challenges of the startup ecosystem.
  • Acquire and implement third-party funded projects.
  • Determine areas of research to increase knowledge in the international relations field and write reports, papers and reviews to present findings in leading journals and conferences.
  • Contributing to the academic self-administration duties of the VIGS Institute.
  • Teaching and conducting examinations independently (the standard teaching load for this position is 5 units/week per year (1 unit = 45 minutes of teaching). Supervising theses is counted towards the teaching load.
Your profile
  • Doctorate in economics, business administration, management, or a related field within the social sciences.
  • Experience in research, preferably with a strong focus on international politics and international security.
  • Profound knowledge of different research methods (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Ability to attract external funding to support research programs and to successfully build collaborative research programs with other universities, research institutes and industry.
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills; proficiency in German language is welcome.

Further information
This is a full‐time, indefinite contract position where applicants are prepared to work 40 hours per week (with overtime hours). The initial salary is EUR 108,000 before taxes (plus approx. 30% Arbeitgeberanteil = contribution to the social security and pension fund paid by the employer according to Austrian Law), with additional remuneration for extra teaching or supervision of theses. The position remains open until filled; the review of applications will commence immediately after the announcement. Earliest starting date: 1 April 2025.
